Ascorbic acid and calcium and sodium ascorbates are the primary forms of vitamin C. Humans are unable to form their own ascorbic acid and so a dietary source is necessary. Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin, is essential for the synthesis of collagen and connective tissue components.
